 Online Activity: Go to Mission US. Set up a free account. Select For Crown or Colony.

1. Click on “Meet the Characters” and read about the characters in your mission.

PICK-A-PROJECT: Choose one. Remember to be creative!

1. Our Great Britain: make a set of text messages between two colonists that shows how most of the colonists felt toward Britain in 1764.

2. Superiority Complex? The British looked down on the colonists because they were not “landed gentry.” Choose one of the options below:

  • Create a piece of artwork that portrays the landed gentry’s feelings toward the colonists.

  • Write about an example of one group of people looking down on another group, either from real life or from fiction. You can write a paragraph, create a “dear diary” entry, compose a poem…whatever you want.

     

     Literature: The Fifth of March, chapters 1-4

    PICK-A-PROJECT: Choose one. Remember to be creative!

    1. Hear Ye, Hear Ye! Explain the nonimportation agreement. Choose one of the options below:

    • Write a short newspaper article to be published in one of the patriot-owned newspapers.

    • Design a poster explaining it that can be displayed around town.

    2. Hey…I know you! Which characters from the story do you recognize from history? Choose one of the options below:

    • Draw portraits of them.

    • Find images of them online and insert into a document.

    3. Presumed Innocent? Do you think the British government had the right to sell the ship Liberty before the trial? Choose one of the options below:

    • Pretend you are a lawyer for either side. Prepare your closing argument designed to convince the jury that your side is correct.

    • Create a facebook, snapchat or instagram post that conveys your opinion.

    4. Quotable Quotes: Choose one of the quotes below. Tell your thoughts about it or make an illustration for it.

    • Pg. 8: “There must be some secret power to the words in books…I’d decided that’s where the real power was.”

    • Pg. 41: “the only truly ignorant are those who think they know all.”

    • Pg. 46: “that’s how intelligent people conduct themselves. They allow for each other’s differences.”
