Levels

This course is offered at both the middle and high school levels. While much of the content is similar, the middle school course uses high-quality easy-to-read literature while the high school course incorporates more challenging historical fiction. In addition, the high school level course assignments are more numerous and complex, and will require more of a time commitment to complete.

Students should indicate their level upon enrollment.

You Choose: Pathways

In order to give learners a wide degree of control over their own learning, this course offers three different pathways:

Pathway 1 –One-to-One: Learners work through the presentations and follow-up activities that interest them, but are not required to contribute to the discussion forum. They may upload any work they choose in order to receive guidance and feedback from the instructor, but this is not required. Learners who choose this pathway will receive anecdotal feedback for any work they submit and a summary detailing the topics covered in the course. Letter grades are not offered with this pathway.

Pathway 2 – Small Group: Learners who choose this option will be interacting with other learners in the course. After working through the presentations and any follow-up activities they choose, they will engage in forum discussions facilitated by the instructor. Learners may choose to submit their follow-up activities, but this is not required. Learners who choose this pathway will receive anecdotal feedback for any work they submit and a summary detailing the topics covered in the course. Letter grades are not offered with this pathway.

Pathway 3 – Formal: This pathway is offered for parents and learners who want a letter grade and certificate of completion for their records/transcripts. Learners who choose this pathway are expected to work through all presentations, complete and submit all assignments, and participate in the discussion forum. In addition to grades, learners will receive anecdotal feedback about their work, a course summary and a certificate of completion.

Students should indicate their pathway preference upon enrollment.
