Course Description
In this course, we will explore how to create compelling characters.
During week 1, students will work through a multi-media presentation to learn about how J.K. Rowling develops characters that feel “real”. They will also read excerpts of writing that exemplifies this.
During week 2, students will be asked to choose an actual character from the series who is mentioned but not developed. They will then use guided activity pages to complete a brainstorming/planning activity to prepare for next week’s assignment. Once complete, students should upload this to the instructor for feedback. Feedback will be provided in written form.
During week 3, students should use their planning pages and the feedback from the instructor to write a first draft of their character piece. First drafts should be submitted via Google Docs to the instructor.
Once the first draft has been submitted, the instructor will utilize the editing feature of Google Docs to provide feedback. Each student will also receive a personal video with instructor feedback.
During week 4, students should use the feedback they received to revise their pieces. Final drafts should be submitted to the instructor via Google Docs. The instructor will provide additional feedback via Google Docs and a personal video.
