Fractions start with a simple idea: sharing something fairly. Split a candy bar between two people, and you’ve already made a fraction — maybe without even realizing it! You’ll explore what it means for something to be broken into equal parts, whether it’s a whole thing (like a chocolate bar) or a whole group (like figuring out how many cupcakes have chocolate frosting). 

Halves, thirds, and everything between

You’ll build up your fraction vocabulary one hands-on activity at a time — halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, eighths, twelfths — not by memorizing a chart, but by cutting, folding, building, and bowling your way through them. Transform strips of paper into a fraction finder. Build a caterpillar out of pom-poms and figure out what fraction of it is orange. Stack up a Lego tower and discover how many different fractions are hiding inside the colors you chose.

Fractions you can touch (and sometimes eat)

This is a deliciously hands-on adventure — literally. You’ll separate snacks by color and turn them into fraction problems, break apart a Hershey bar to see equal parts in action, and knock down a few fraction-labeled pins in a round of fraction bowling. There are fraction monsters to build, fraction toys to invent, and games to play along the way!
